The Fiestas de Octubre (October Festival) is the largest fair in western Mexico and, for many locals, the real start of the year-end season. For a full month, the Núcleo Auditorio Benito Juárez fills up with carnival rides, street snacks, crafts, cockfights and concerts, ranging from free shows to big-name acts at the palenque (the fair’s arena for cockfights and concerts). The 2026 edition already has dates, a venue and a lineup that includes Alejandro Fernández, Grupo Firme, Banda MS and Julión Álvarez, among others. Here is everything you need to plan your visit without surprises.
What the Fiestas de Octubre are and why they matter
The festival began in 1965, an initiative of then-governor Francisco Medina Ascencio, who wanted a large popular celebration to promote the culture and tourism of Jalisco. The first edition was held in Parque Agua Azul, and since 1984 the fair has been based at the Núcleo Auditorio Benito Juárez. It turned 60 in 2025, which helps explain why it is called “the most Mexican fair”: the palenque with its cockfights, the parade floats, the teatro del pueblo (a free open-air stage) and a trade expo all share the same grounds.
Each year the organizing board picks a different theme, a tradition that started in 1991. Beyond the concert lineup, the Fiestas de Octubre remain an affordable family outing: a single general admission ticket gets you into the pavilions and the evening concert at the Foro Principal (main stage).
Fiestas de Octubre 2026 dates and venue
The 2026 edition runs from October 2 to November 1, 31 straight days of activities. The venue is the usual one: the Núcleo Auditorio Benito Juárez, on Avenida Mariano Bárcenas, in the northern part of the Guadalajara metro area.

How much general admission costs (and who pays less)

These were the 2025 prices, and 2026 is expected to be very similar (check on the day of your visit):
🎟️ General admission to the grounds (2025 reference)
Adults: MXN $60
Children ages 4 to 12, students and seniors: MXN $30
Free admission: people with disabilities and children under 3
Includes the pavilions + that day’s concert at the Foro Principal (bleacher section). The palenque and the rides are paid separately.

The FREE concerts at the Foro Principal
This is the best-kept secret of the Fiestas de Octubre: besides the paid palenque, every night there is a concert at the Foro Principal of the Auditorio Benito Juárez that is included with your general admission. You do not pay anything extra for the show; your entry ticket to the grounds gets you into the bleacher section to watch that night’s artist. The Foro Principal lineup is usually announced a few weeks before opening day, so keep an eye out if you are looking for the most budget-friendly option.
Things to do at the Fiestas de Octubre
Concerts get most of the attention, but the fair offers much more than music. This is what you will find on the grounds:
- Carnival rides for every comfort level, from kid-sized Ferris wheels to extreme rides for thrill seekers (paid separately from admission).
- Palenque with cockfights, the tradition that gives the fair its name and its Mexican character.
- Trade and crafts pavilions, with products from Jalisco and the rest of the country.
- Food courts with antojitos (street snacks): tortas ahogadas, birria, pozole, tacos, churros and more.
- Expo La Canica Azul and cultural activities designed for families.
- Teatro del pueblo and secondary stages with dance, shows and up-and-coming artists.
What to eat at the fair
The food is half the reason to come. The stands serve the best of Jalisco cuisine: a good birria (slow-cooked spiced meat stew), classic carne en su jugo (beef cooked in its own broth), tacos, tortas ahogadas (sandwiches drenched in chile sauce) and an ice-cold tejuino (a fermented corn drink) for the heat. Come hungry and bring cash, because not every stand takes cards.

- Get back safely: plan your transit route ahead of time or request an Uber/DiDi from a well-lit area when you leave.
